David Wong
David Wong is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Private Equity Performance Improvement Group in Boston. He leads the software and product due diligence offering for private equity firms and their portfolio companies.
With over 25 years of experience as a strategy consultant, senior executive and thought leader, David has worked with a wide range of organizations, from start-up to mid-market to Fortune 50, in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.
§David’s notable experiences include leading a combined market and product/technology due diligence assessment of a leading player in the data analytics and integrity software markets with a $9 billion total address market, with segments of the broader enterprise information management market. Previously, David led a combined market and product due diligence assessment of a leading contact center infrastructure software provider. The assessment addressed the positioning of the existing product set and the organization for the market shift away from legacy on-premises solutions toward the cloud.
§In addition, David led the product and tech due diligence and was a senior team member of the synergy and cost takeout for the carve out and merger integration of a $400 million revenue digital marketing services business focused on automotive OEMs and their dealers. This carve out was assessed as part of potential integration with an existing marketing agency.
§Prior to joining A&M, David was a Managing Director with Bulger Partners. He co-founded and co-managed the strategy consulting practice, focusing on software and tech-enabled business services transactions and portfolio companies. Previously, he held various strategy consulting, marketing and emerging business innovation leadership roles at IBM. He joined IBM as part of its acquisition of Mainspring, a venture-backed strategy consultancy start-up, where, as a partner, he helped grow the firm twenty-fold in two years. He has also published articles and white papers on cloud and other tech-related issues, as well as on the integration of business and IT. In addition, David has spoken at a variety of conferences, events and client briefings.
David earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering with first class honors from Queen’s University at Kingston, and a Master of Public and Private Management from the Yale School of Management.
