James McGlennon is an accomplished former Chief Information Officer of a Fortune 100 company, recognized for his ability to drive growth through digital transformation, process simplification, AI, and machine learning. With over 30 years of cross-industry technology experience, he possesses a deep understanding of both regulated and unregulated environments and has led teams in the US, Europe, India, and Africa. James leverages a forward-thinking approach to business strategy, enabling companies to stay ahead of the technology curve and evolving consumer expectations.

As Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Liberty Mutual Insurance Group (LMIG), James played a pivotal role in transforming the company into a technology-driven organization that provides industry-leading insurance solutions. He made technology innovation a central pillar of the company’s strategy and led a team of nearly 15,000 employees, contractors, and consultants worldwide in creating a global digital ecosystem that offers world-class products and services. James set industry standards by leading the transition to the cloud and implementing Agile software development capabilities that increased technology development cycle time and eliminated supply chain drag.

A champion of innovation, James co-sponsored Liberty Ventures to support startup companies aligned with LMIG’S goals and created an internal engine for creating and testing new products. He was also instrumental in ensuring successful acquisitions worldwide, leading the technology integration of the company’s largest acquisitions.

In addition to driving business growth, James also led a cultural transformation at Liberty Mutual Technology, which contributed toward a Computerworld ranking of “Best Place to Work in IT” in 2020, 2021, and 2022. He developed and launched a “Best Tech Secret” strategy to attract top technology talent and built a “GoForCode” program offering hundreds of business analysts the opportunity to expand their skill sets by attending coding schools free of charge. James also mentored many professionals who have advanced to top leadership roles within the industry and made it a priority to incorporate meaningful DEI and ESG efforts into performance goals.

Before joining Liberty Mutual, James led software development at BellSouth Corporation and has experience consulting and leading technology functions in banking. He completed a year-long international assignment in Africa building the technology infrastructure needed to establish the National Social Security Authority of Zimbabwe.

James is a highly respected board member who has served as Chairman of Liberty IT, a LMIG global subsidiary, as well as on multiple not-for-profit boards. He has been interviewed by multiple outlets as a thought leader on a range of topics related to technology transformation and global growth. His many accolades include the Forbes CIO Next 2021 award, Irish American Magazine’s Business 100 Award, and a 2018 CIO of the Year Orbie Award.

James holds both a Master and Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Galway in Ireland and has completed Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
