Tej Anand

Tej Anand is an award-winning business-technology strategist, advisor, innovator, educator, and practitioner. As an electrical engineer and computer scientist with a specialization in artificial intelligence research in the late 1980s, he played a pioneering role in the development of commercial data mining, now recognized as data science. With over three decades of experience, Mr. Anand has dedicated his career to teaching computers how to learn and extract meaning from data for business professionals.

Complementing his technical background, Tej Anand earned a doctorate in adult learning and organizational leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, in 2014. His primary passion lies in helping businesses discover their competitive edge at the intersection of business, data, and technology, always keeping people at the forefront of his focus.

Mr. Anand also serves as a Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland and is the Co-Founder of The Inceptary, a non-profit “thinking social network” advocating for disruption and transformation in the US healthcare sector.

In the initial stage of his career, Tej Anand held positions at technology companies such as NCR/Teradata, A. C. Nielsen, and Philips Research Laboratories. During this time, he contributed to several patents and developed revenue-producing products. Subsequently, he spent five years refining his skills as a technology executive and management consultant before transitioning to the healthcare industry. Over 15 years, working as a senior business-technology executive at Medco and CareCentrix, he successfully implemented data-driven, technology-enabled business models and processes that reduced healthcare costs and improved clinical outcomes, resulting in several patents.

In June 2018, Mr. Anand shifted his focus to education and consulting. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas in Austin, and as a Visiting Professor at the Columbia University Center for Technology Management. In addition, he is the President of Celeriac System, where he tackles complex societal challenges associated with the unintended consequences of technology. Furthermore, he holds the position of Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland – Robert H. Smith School of Business, where he continues to contribute his expertise in the fields of business and technology.
