Thomas Doughty

Tom Doughty is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in cybersecurity, currently holding the position of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Generate:Biomedicines. As the CISO, Tom plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the organization’s information and technology assets.

Previously, Tom served as the Vice President and CISO at Prudential, where he retired from his role in June 2023. Throughout his tenure as CISO since 2006, Tom led the global information and cybersecurity program, overseeing infrastructure-level protections, security-related policies and standards, and security operations in a highly regulated, cloud-enabled business environment.

At Prudential, Tom spearheaded business-focused security initiatives, including a dynamic threat and vulnerability management program. He directly engaged with Prudential’s Board and senior team, aligning management focus with emerging exposures. Tom also played a crucial role externally, representing Prudential’s Information Security Program as a cross-industry leader. He collaborated with peer companies, government agencies, law enforcement, and intelligence sources to assimilate best practices and enhance the collective security landscape. Notably, he provided primary oversight and management of Information Technology-related regulatory liaison and response during Prudential’s designation as the only non-bank Systemically Important Financial Institution (SIFI).

Before joining Prudential, Tom served as a Military Intelligence Officer in the United States Army from 1993 to 1998, achieving the rank of Captain. His specialization during this period included Electronic and Information Warfare, focusing on emerging intelligence processing technology platforms.

In addition to his role at Generate:Biomedicines, Tom currently serves as an Advisory Board Member at SecurityScorecard and Anomali, contributing valuable insights and guidance to these organizations in the realm of cybersecurity. Furthermore, he is actively involved in the Wall Street Technology Association as a Board of Directors member and has served on the board of Financial Top-Level Domain Services (fTLD), LLC until June 2023. Tom also dedicates his expertise as an advisor and mentor within Columbia University’s Graduate School of Professional Studies and Northeastern University’s Center for Technology Management & Digital Leadership.

Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point (1993) and earned an MBA with a dual focus on Finance and Information Technology from New York University’s Stern School of Business (2003). Additionally, he maintains a current Top Secret / SCI security clearance, attesting to his commitment to high standards of security and confidentiality.
